Abstract

The GRAMI crop growth model was coupled with the SPECAN canopy reflectance model to estimate growth of winter wheat in the Camargue region (France). The re-parameterization approach allowed acceptable biomass and LAI estimates even without an a priori knowledge of sowing dates and when driven solely by weather data derived from existing meteorological networks. Final yield, on the other hand, has not been estimated correctly. This has been traced back to the rather simple way in which final yield is calculated and due to its small variability in the test sites.
